English 8

To start off today, I explained the Independent Novel Study program for English 8. I then took the students up to the library and Mr. Wilson gave the students an orientation of the library and taught them how to search for novels usinf L4U. Students had time to browse around at novels and start reading the ones they picked.

After that, students took notes on types of irony and we looked at a couple different examples in the media. We then read the article "Doin Time"; students got into groups to discuss corresponding questions about the article, motivations for committing crimes, and stereotypes of criminals. We then read the short story"Thank You Ma'am" and started working on a writing assignment associated with the story.

Reminders:
  • "Thank You Ma'am" questions: due next class
