Planning 10

The Junior Achievement Program came back today - I greatly appreciated their time in effort to come and spend time with us! They discussed interviews and online media profiles. They also did some mock interviews with some of the students. We ended class by playing a board game based on the content we learned.

I asked students to complete the booklets they gave us and hand it in; I will mark  them for completion. Thanks for your attentiveness today!

English 9: Blocks 5/6

I won't see you guys again before the break, so have a fantastic holiday!!!

Today students wrote a final test on "A Midsummer Night's Dream". In the second block, we read up to page 47 in My Name is Seepeetza. We also did a 'cut and paste' activity in which students had to evaluate Seepeetza's education at home and at school. Furthermore, we watched a few more video clips discussing the effects of Residential Schools.

English 8

Mr. Colvin finished Career 8 yesterday, so we got back to English today.

We started off by discussing Chapters 13-17 in The Giver and working on questions. We then started watching the movie.

English 9: Blocks 5/6

We started out new novel today, My Name is Seepeetza. 

We discussed the history of Residential Schools in Canada, and read the first 27 pages of the novel. There were corresponding questions, which we'll continue next class.

I handed back all of the AMSND questions and Practice Tests, so students have material to review for the test tomorrow.

English 9: Blocks 1/2

Today we finished the last few pages of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" and students completed the questions for Act 5. We then watched the rest of the movie.

I handed out a Practice Test to compete for next class. It also outlines stuff you'll need to know for the test.

English 9: Blocks 5/6

I was away on Friday, but students had their last class in the library to work on their AMSND projects. Many of them have already been handed in - thank you! Friday was our last class to work on it.

To start off class, we took out the novel My Name is Seepeetza. After that, we watched a summary video of "A Midsummer Night's Dream". Students then took some notes on Shakespearean Comedies. THIS WILL BE A QUESTION ON THE TEST - STUDY THESE NOTES! Students then had time to complete a practice test, and we spent the rest of class playing Jeopardy games.

It was our last day of Career Ed today.

English 9: Blocks 1/2

I was away Friday, so students wrote a quiz and had some time to work on their projects. I will give students another 30 minutes on Thursday to finish.

Today, students took some notes on Shakespearean comedies and how it relates to "A Midsummer Night's Dream". THIS WILL BE A QUESTION ON THE TEST!!!

Students also worked on Act 4 questions and we almost finished reading the play.

Planning 10

Some forms were sent home for parents to read and sign today. The Junior Achievement program is coming into our class this week to teach 'Economics for Success'. A description of the program was sent for parents to read, as well as some consent forms to be signed for photos taken in the classroom.
We spent the class today in the library working on health brochures.

English 9: Blocks 1/2

Students started off with time for silent reading, and then we read the majority of Act 3, Scene 2 as a class. We ended the class with watching a scene from the movie.

We did a small exercise on run-on sentences today, and students worked on questions for Act 4, Scenes 1 and 2 in "A Midsummer Night's Dream". We then read most of Act 5.

English 8

Today students wrote a quiz on the first half of The Giver. They then had the rest of class to either work on their Annex Room drawings or silent read.

English 9: Blocks 5/6

Today I gave students time to work on their Act 3, Scene 2 questions from "A Midsummer Night's Dream". We then read all of Act 4 and watched the movie version.

Planning 10

Yesterday, students started a brochure project in which they had to pick a 'health topic' to discuss. More lab time will be assigned to complete this.

We also worked through the 'Healthy Living Booklet"; I went through a slide show and explained stressors, stress overload, and barriers to dealing with stress.  We also watched a clip from the documentary "The Secret".

Today, we talked about technology and safe ways of using technology. Students worked in groups and researched an article that discussed teenagers and technology. They summarized the points on paper and we discussed them as a class.

English 9: Blocks 1/2

Today we learned about "Pyramus and Thisbe" and read Act 3, Scene 1 in "A Midsummer Night's Dream". Students then worked on questions and silent read their independent reading novels.
