We did a thorough overview of Chapter 5 in
The Outsiders today. We analyzed the poem "Nothing Gold Can Stay" by Robert Frost and discussed its relevance to the characters in the novel. We also watched some clips from
Gone With the Wind to understand Johnny's fascination with Southern Gentlemen. Students then worked on questions and a vocabulary crossword.
During the second half of class, we brainstormed stereotypes of Greasers and Socs and students started putting together a collage of contrasting words and images that represent these stereotypes. We'll continue this next class.
