English 9

What a great week! I'm so happy with my students :) I had a lot of fun telling you ghost stories this afternoon!

Here is an overview of the last few days:

Thursday, Sept 5, 2013

  • How to write an introduction letter
  • Handouts given to students with description of the Introduction Letter assignment and the rubric
  • Wrote out a plan (worth 6 marks)
  • Wrote the rough copy of the letter
  • Signed out Sightlines 9 textbook
  • 2 Truths 1 Lie game
Friday, Sept 6, 2013

  • Editing sentences: Incorrect sentences were given on the board. Students wrote them down and corrected them and we went over them together. I will be doing this every class. Keep a copy of the sentences and every third week, you will receive a quiz on the same sentences.
  • Review of Thursday's class
  • Discussion on prior knowledge of short stories
  • Power Point presentation on the parts of plot
  • I told two stories aloud: "The Storm" and "Flat Head Lake"
  • Worksheet: Students listened to the stories and filled out the parts of plot
  • Worked on the Introduction Letter (rough copy and peer review)

Reminders:
  • Please have your course outline signed if it hasn't been already
  • We will have time Monday to work on the good copies of your letter. It will be the last class given to work on this. The plan, the rough copy and the good copy will be due Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013. You must have the rough copy reviewed by someone. The good copy will be completed BY HAND (and not on the computer). This gives me a chance to evaluate your legibility
  • If you can, bring or make 5 dividers labelled "Grammar", "Short Stories", "Novels", "Shakespeare" and "Other" (I can explain this next class)
