Over the past week, we've been doing a lot of Provincial Exam Prep. Students wrote a practice exam yesterday, and we looked at more examples of compositions today. Today, we also reviewed more terms and analyzed poems by looking at poetic devices.

The projects are coming along nicely!
We spent the first half of the day in the IT Lab working on Greek Mythology projects. After the break, we discussed descrition and imagery. We then read and analyzed the poems "My Mother, Who Came From China, Who Never Saw Snow" and "When I was a Little Girl". We finished by starting a plan for a descriptive paragraph.

Thanks for working so well today Grade 10's!
Today we went through characteristics of a Dystopian society and how they apply to The Chrysalids. This will be a question on your test tomorrow. After that, we watched an example of telepathy in Simpson's "The Shinning". I then went over the structure of a five-paragraph literary essay and assigned an in-class essay on The Chrysalids for Tuesday next week. We spent most of the class filling out a planning sheet, creating thesis statements, and picking quotations.
After the break, I went throguth poetic device terms you will need to know for the Provincial Exam. We also analyzed the song "Testify" and the poem "Letter to the Media". We finished the class by starting a 'Black-out' poem.

Today we had Ms. Moore come in and share an Indigenous story with us, originating from the Shuswap area. Thank you for being attentive and participating in the discussion! We started off the day with quiet reading (read Chapter 15 for homework). Students then wrote a quiz, and we discussed the events in Chapter 14 in The Chrysalids.
After the break, we started watching the film The Village. Students will have to write a written comparison on common themes the film and The Chrysalids (fear of the unknown, xenophobia, rigid beliefs). We'll continue it next class.

We started off the day with practice on commonly confused words. We then went to the library to take out copies of the book Myth. After that, students presented their independent novel study PowerPoints.
In the second half of the class, students took notes on characteristics of mythology, and we watched a re-cap of famous Greek gods and goddesses. We also watched a clip of the story of "Pandora's Box". After that we read the story "The Flood" in our Myth books and completed a booklet about the story. We went over the answers as a class.
